The season will run from April until September, including during school holidays. Games are usually played at Akau Tangi Sports Centre in Wellington, but can occasionally be in Taita also.
- WFL will begin on 10th April 2026
- Women’s Cup TBC
- Junior Cup TBC
Players and training members are required to be year 10 and above to play in WFL (year 9 for Junior Cup).
Pre-season Training
Registrations will close on 28th February (but sign up earlier so you don’t miss out on Feb pre-season!) Please register your interest for one of the two options: WFL A or WFL B. Please note that you sign up for trainings and WFL season at the same time.
Trainings will begin 3rd February for A grade (Premiership) and 5th February for B grade (Championship). During February, all players who were in B grade teams last year, or are new to WFL, will train on Thursdays.
Term One
WFL A - Tuesdays, 8:00pm - 9:30pm, Ākau Tangi
WFL B - Thursdays 8:00pm - 9:30pm, Ākau Tangi
Term Two and Three 3
WFL A - Tuesdays, 8:00pm - 9:30pm, Ākau Tangi
WFL B - Monday or Thursday, 7:00 - 9:00pm, Saint Patrick’s College, Kilbirnie.
Please note these times are 30 minutes earlier than last year. If there is a night (Monday/Thursday) you cannot train, please indicate this on the sign-up form.
Grade selection If you want to be considered for A grade, indicate this in the sign-up form. During pre-season, coaches will consider your aptitude for A grade and may invite you to participate in A grade training as part of their assessment.
Playing in A grade last year does not guarantee you will be selected for A grade this season. There will be some opportunities during the year for B grade players to ‘play up’ during the season.
Teams will be confirmed at the start of March.
Information for Women/U19 Women Players
After the great success of the Women’s Cup last year, Floorball New Zealand are bringing it back better and stronger this year. Players can play in both the WFL and the Women’s League. Please indicate in the sign up form if you would like to only play in one of these grades.
U17 women who are eligible for the WFL, Women’s Cup and Junior Cup are currently only allowed to play in two of the three competitions. This means you will have to miss out on either: the full WFL experience, the Women-only experience or the Junior experience. We will talk to you individually and collectively about which grades we think would be best for you to play in.
Information for Junior (Y9-U17) Players
Full information about the Junior Cup has not been released yet. However, we know it will operate like the Women’s Cup last year – a stand alone competition with teams made specifically for the competition. The Junior Cup will be a much shorter season (only a handful of games).
You can play in both the full WFL and the Junior WFL, and we encourage you to do so.
Your full WFL team will be your main team. Junior WFL teams may be a mix of players from different teams, so you will not train together for it.
Team managers
Team managers are the vital glue that hold teams together and make sure that everyone has a fantastic experience throughout the year. We will provide a key info document and any support you need.
We need a parent from each team to step up and help manage the team. This mostly involves weekly communication with the team and coaches as well as helping coordinate uniforms. Team managers for U19 teams will also have to arrange a roster of parents to supervise training at St Pats in terms 2 and 3.
Please let us know through the sign-up form if you are willing to help out this year.
Invoice
We received positive feedback on our approach to invoicing last year (please let us know any positive or constructive feedback you have any time).
Based on last year's costs, we have set an indicative cost of $500 for A grade and $400 for B grade (for now general WFL $0.01 invoices will be issued at sign-up).
This cost covers all trainings, the season team entry fee, your Floorball New Zealand licence and shared equipment. It does not, however, cover any uniform costs for personalised uniforms.
At this time, we do not expect an additional cost for people participating in the Women's Cup or Junior Cup as well as WFL. If you participate in one of these but not the full WFL, we may charge a small fee to cover FNZ licence and shared equipment.
We will issue a finalised invoice in March, after teams have been selected and we know our final costs from FBNZ and our partner venues. If the final invoice is lower than the indicative cost, we will refund any overpayment.
The invoice can be paid in instalments, please get in touch to arrange this - admin@wellingtonfloorball.org.nz.
If there are any questions at all please get in touch with us through admin@wellingtonfloorball.org.nz or reach out to Angus or Inge in person.
